Cedar Valley Pita Chips Review
I’ve been trying to eat healthier over the last few months and it has made finding snacks quite the difficult endeavor. Which is why an unfamiliar, dark and slightly tall package with a green center caught my attention while I was casually browsing Costco.
Pita Chips… Cooked in Coconut Oil… MADE IN CANADA?!!!!!
I was VERY intrigued. It was a brand called Cedar Valley that I had never heard off before. So I thought why not.
One 545 gram bag was $8.99 which definitely seems expensive, but when comparing to other snacks in the “healthy” category it was actually fairly reasonably priced.
Cedar Valley Pita Chips Review
I got the Garlic and Herb flavour but they have five other flavours as well.

What I really like about this as a snack is that it is really light. I usually like to eat chips and after eating a bit more than I should I find I have this heavy feeling because the chips are drenched in oil.
That being said, the herbs part of the flavour can be quite strong to some. It took me a couple of tries to get used to it, but after that it was pretty decent.
I liked the fact that the flavour wasn’t weak, which is an issue I have with other snacks in this category.
However, my absolute favourite part of all of this is that it is only 160 calories per 50 grams. That might sound high but you have to keep in mind that most chips bags are between 250-280 calories per 50 grams. So this only has 60% of the calories of regular chips.

Are Cedar Valley Pita Chips healthier than other brands?

I’m not going to go into the seed oil debate (even though I have been decreasing my consumption of them) because frankly I can’t find very concrete evidence of them being bad.
Additionally, packaged pita chips doesn’t really have its own category so I’m going to group it under chips.
From a calories perspective it is significantly better than most options out there. I decided to compare it against Hardbite Avocado Oil chips since it was closer than other options that use different oils.

Conclusion
Overall, I thought it was a really good snack. However, for some people, including myself, it might take some time to get used to the flavour. I suspect this is specific to the flavour I tried, so I’ll have to try a different flavour and update this post when I get a chance.
This brand is definitely targeting people that are looking for healthier foods to snack on. I would say that their Costco pricing gives INCREDIBLE value given the average prices in this premium category. If you buy from the store, the price will be very similar to other premium products.
A big plus is that they’re located in Windsor, Ontario so its really cool to see a small Canadian business in Costco.
