The Cheapest Coffee in Toronto (2024)
Getting a double double was a routine part for many people living in Toronto. However, in 2014 Tim Hortons was bought by a Brazilian investment firm and it was never the same since. This led a lot of people to look elsewhere for their morning coffee.
However, with rampant inflation over the last few years, I was curious to see where one could find the cheapest coffee in Toronto.
I initially made a series of Reddit posts before deciding to make a dedicated post on the blog. Many reddit users highlighted that you had to differentiate between large chains that sell cheap coffee and specialty coffee shops that primarily serve higher quality, but more expensive coffee.
I made a list of all the coffee chains (big and small) I could find to see which of them had the cheapest coffee in Toronto. I did not include any add-ons to make the comparison equal. I don’t think many of you will be happy once you find out where the cheapest coffee in Toronto is.
As part of my research I was curious to see how many locations each of these chains had. I only showed the number of locations for smaller chains. Lets’ take a look below.
Number of locations per chain (for chains primarily in Toronto):
Mos Mos: 12
Pilot: 10
Dark Horse: 9
Jimmy’s: 9
Balzacs: 8 (+ 8 across Ontario)
Demello: 6
Dineen: 5
Farenheit: 4
Sam James: 4
I Deal coffee: 3
Neo Coffee: 3
Rooster Coffee House: 3
The Library Specialty Coffee: 2 (+1 in Markham)
Found Coffee: 2

The average price of coffee in Toronto:
Small: $2.43
Medium: $2.79
Large: $3.02
Extra Large: $2.40*
*The reason the Extra Large is cheaper than all the other sizes is because smaller chains didn’t have Extra Large. This lower price is primarily driven by larger companies.
The cheapest coffee in Toronto:
Small: $1.59
Medium: $1.83
Large: $2.07
Extra Large: $2.35
Tim Hortons and McDonald’s were the cheapest in Toronto and had the exact same price for each size. Not suspicious at all.
The most expensive coffee in Toronto:
Small: $3.25 (Pilot)
Medium: $3.5 (Found Coffee)
Large: $4 (Demello)
Extra Large: $2.49 (Country Style)*
*Country Style is a large chain focused on lower prices, similar to Tim Hortons and McDonald’s. Which is why the price is much cheaper compared the the other coffee shops.
