Is Great Value The Cheapest frozen pizza Brand in canada?
Finding the best frozen pizza in Canada based on taste can be a pretty hard task. Luckily, finding the cheapest frozen pizza in Canada is much much simpler. That being said, since the quantities are generally different, it doesn’t always mean that cheaper frozen pizzas are actually cheaper. In this post we’re not going to focus on the taste and mostly be focusing on the price alone. Keep in mind that buying any of these frozen pizzas at a premium store like Longos or Loblaws will translate to higher prices than what we have below.
We broke down the 8 most popular brands in Canada by price per box as well as per 100 grams, below:
Pizza Name | Parent Company | Price | Advertised Net Weight in grams | Price per 100 grams | Grams per Dollar |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Irresistibles | Metro | $3.88 | 340 | $1.14 | 87.63 |
Great Value | Walmart | $4.47 | 363 | $1.23 | 81.21 |
Delissio | Nestle | $5.97 | 480 | $1.24 | 80.40 |
Casa Di Mama | Dr. Oetker | $5.47 | 410 | $1.33 | 74.95 |
President’s Choice | Loblaws | $4.99 | 350 | $1.43 | 70.14 |
Giuseppe | Dr. Oetker | $6.47 | 439 | $1.47 | 67.85 |
Ristorante | Dr. Oetker | $5.47 | 340 | $1.61 | 62.16 |
Compliments | Sobeys | $6.99* | 410 | $1.70 | 58.66 |
8. Compliments Three Cheese Hand Finished Crust Frozen Pizza
A big caveat to this one is that we bought it from Sobeys and its likely cheaper by about $2 dollars if you buy it from FreshCo. If you buy it for $5 it would actually be a pretty great deal, at $1.21 per 100 grams, and would become the second cheapest pizza you can get. I’m not near a FreshCo but if I pass by one I’ll update the article. I personally prefer the pizzas in the 400 range because it translates to one more slice and its better suited for sharing. At $6.99 Compliments was the most expensive per 100 grams and per box.
7. Ristorante Four Cheese Thin Crust Frozen Pizza
This was the smallest sized pizza (along with Irresistibles), coming in at 340 grams but unlike Irresistibles it was $5.47. This one and President’s Choice looked oddly similar. Ristorante’s parent company, Dr.Oetker, is based in Germany, which happens to be where the President’s Choice Pizza is made. Dr. Oetker bought McCain’s frozen pizza business back in 2014.
6. Giuseppe 5 Cheese Thin Crust Frozen Pizza
Another brand owned by Dr. Oetkers, Giuseppe was the most expensive (excluding Compliments pizza) per box but was still cheaper than Ristorante because it was 100 grams more.
5. President’s Choice Six Cheese Thin & Crispy Frozen Pizza
President’s choice is the high end private label brand for Loblaws. It had the highest number of cheeses (six) supposedly in the pizza. I thought it was really surprising that they were more expensive than Delissio and Casa Di Mama which are well known frozen pizza brands.
4. Casa Di Mama 4 Cheese Thin Crust Quattro Formaggi Frozen Pizza
Also owned by Dr. Oetkers, Casa Di Mama was the cheapest frozen pizza from the three Dr. Oetker pizzas. It was also the only one that came with parchment paper on the bottom which was very interesting.
3. Delissio 4 Cheese Thin Crispy Crust Frozen Pizza
This is Nestle’s only frozen pizza in Canada as far as I’m aware. It’s the cheapest “brand” name pizza and is also the largest pizza from the eight we bought. The taste is alright but its really well suited for small parties, because cutting it up is extremely straight forward.
2. Great Value 4 Cheese Thin & Crispy Frozen Pizza
Great Value is generally cheap overall and at the unit pricing as well. Great Value frozen pizza is an okay choice for the price but don’t have any high expectations for the taste.
1. Irresistibles Quattro Formaggi Thin Crust Frozen Pizza
The cheapest per box and per 100 grams, Irresistibles is the best bang for buck frozen pizza in Canada. My only problem with this brand is that their packaging is really unattractive. They could really benefit from switching it up.
