Organic Meadow Ice Cream Review
As a long time lover of Ice Cream I like to try smaller brands from time to time. I don’t eat these brands regularly because, generally, they are significantly more expensive and don’t always offer much for the higher cost.
I recently tried Organic Meadow’s Ice Cream and thought it was REALLY good. I tried the Vanilla, Strawberry, and Chocolate flavours. The Strawberry is really hard to find for a strange reason. The Vanilla and Chocolate are generally easy to find at Metro.
Organic Meadow Ice Cream Review
One thing that confused me quite a bit was the absence of an expiry or best before date on the package. They do have a bunch of numbers that are actually a code for the production date. This format is called the Julien Date format and you can find converters online to convert the numerical code into a date. I had to email them to figure all this out. They were pretty responsive though.
They primarily sell the Vanilla and Chocolate flavor. It took me a while before I found a store that had the Strawberry flavor which was equally as good as the Vanilla. I thought the chocolate flavour was the least impressive of the three. Not to say its bad, but the Vanilla and Strawberry flavours really stood out.
I was perplexed by the choice of including Beet juice to make the strawberry Ice Cream more red. I feel like it would be fine without it. Nonetheless, it is very interesting to see an actual food colouring being used and not just “natural colours”.

The taste is very creamy. It is easily, one of the best ice creams I’ve had. There is something pure about the texture and taste. They also use actual Vanilla bean and not an extract.
When comparing to other brands, I would say Haagez-Dazs tastes better overall but that Organic Meadow has a more natural and pure flavour. Haagen-Dazs is also sweeter which we will cover in the ingredients section below. Haagen-Dazs is also one of the largest brands worldwide and is owned by Nestle.
Nutrition Facts Comparison
What surprised me the most when comparing Organic Meadow and Haagen Dazs was the Fat content. I thought Organic Meadow would have more fat but Haagen Dazs had 6 grams more.
The sugar made sense because Haagen Dazs is sweeter.

Ingredients
Compared to cheaper ice cream brands, the ingredients list for Organic Meadow is smaller and has no additives or artificial flavours. If you are looking for organic or fair trade ingredients you will generally find these in more expensive brands.

Cost Comparison
At $10.99 for 946 mL, it is not cheap by any means. BUT, it is a bit cheaper than Haagen-Dazs which is $11.97 for the same volume. Keep in mind that Organic Meadows’ entire product lineup falls in the premium category. So even their milk, yogurt, and all their dairy products are significantly more expensive compared to the budget options out there.
Conclusion
Overall, I really enjoyed the Vanilla and Strawberry flavours. The taste is very premium and natural. The price is high but if you regularly buy Haagen Dazs, this is slightly cheaper! May be one day we see it in Costco.
I would highly recommend trying it once because it is that good. They are also located in Guelph, Ontario which is cool to see.
