6 Best Doritos Flavors Ranked
Doritos is one of my all time favorite snacks and I knew this ranking was going to be harder because I am VERY biased towards one of the flavors. Luckily, I always have a second taster with me to get rid of some of these biases.
Doritos is a very popular chips brand, and is unsurprisingly owned by Frito Lay (A.K.A. Lays) which is owned by Pepsi. Click on the hyperlinked Doritos and just scroll to the bottom of that page to see for yourself.
Anyways, there are a ton of different Doritos flavors out there, but I only found six. This was a blessing in disguise because Doritos is $4 now (September 2023) which is pretty absurd. So I had to wait until there was a deal, and I used a few coupons too.
Now that we have a bit of background, let’s get into our task of finding the best Doritos flavors!
6. Bold BBQ
You can definitely taste the BBQ flavor. That being said, I thought the taste was pretty weak. The BBQ flavor wasn’t bad but I have had better BBQ flavors before.
I think the problem with this flavor is that it is not the standard BBQ flavor (which is very good in my opinion). I applaud them for trying to be bold but I don’t think they succeeded. Still, it’s not a bad flavor but Doritos has much better ones. If I’m going to have Doritos, I likely won’t get this one.
The other taster doesn’t really like BBQ flavors overall so gave it a lower score.

5. Flamin Hot Nacho
There is virtually no distinct flavor that I was able to taste. It was literally just heat. This was surprisingly not bad, but there is almost 0 nacho or cheese flavor.
I found the raw spicy taste really good but completely overpowered any other flavor. Either they need to decrease the strength of the heat or increase the nacho flavor.

4. Nacho Cheese
The Doritos Nacho flavor is probably one of the most iconic chips flavors in North America. It’s the flavor that comes to mind when someone says Doritos.
While there is nothing crazy or special about the taste, it is very good. In my opinion, it’s a timeless flavor that you can’t go wrong with. Very enjoyable but you won’t get anything exotic or special from it.

3. Sweet Chili Heat
I used to love this flavor as a kid and still love it as an adult. I am heavily biased towards this flavor and funny enough the second taster didn’t think it was as good as I thought it was.
Regardless, what makes this the best Doritos flavor for me is how it’s spicy but comes with almost no heat. You have to eat a lot of it to start getting a runny nose and all the other symptoms.
The second taster thought the flavor was accurate but just doesn’t like sweet chili overall.

2. Zesty Cheese
The Zesty Cheese had a very nice and flavorful taste. Overall, it was a very nice eating experience. You can just feel the cheese.
I personally would have loved a stronger cheese flavor but my second taster thought it was the right amount.

1. Cool Ranch
This is a flavor I have come to really like over the last few years. I find this one of the most addicting chips flavors overall.
The taste is INCREDIBLE. They can call it Cool Ranch but to me it feels like they should call it “Cool Ranch, featuring Sour Cream and Onion.” The different flavors are well balanced and there is really nothing you can improve on this.
This is one of the best Doritos flavors.

Final Thoughts
You can’t go wrong with Doritos. While some of their flavors aren’t as good as their top flavors, there is no flavor that is bad. That being said, if you want a great flavor, without too much going on, get the Nacho flavor as it is a classic. You could also get the Sweet Chili Heat which my personal favorite.
If you want something different or if you like cheese, then you absolutely have to get the Zesty Cheese.
If you want the best there is, then go with the Cool Ranch. It is probably one of the best chips flavors in the Lays family.
