7 Best Oreo Flavors

Cookies were one of my favourite snacks when I was younger. I personally didn’t have much Oreo growing up as I used to get the gigantic Great Value bag that sadly no longer exists. However, I have always wanted to make a list of the best Oreo flavors as its one of the most popular cookie brands.

Oreo, (like Chips Ahoy is owned by Mondelez international which probably owns half of the cookies and gum brands that you eat. Look at this massive list of brands they own.

Let’s get into our task for today of getting the best Oreo flavors ranked!

Best Oreo Flavors

7. Mint

I won’t lie and say that I went into this one with an open mind. I already had some strong negative opinions about this and only bought it to rank it.

The taste is terrible. It was like taking the cookie, putting toothpaste inside, and eating it. Absolutely disgusting.

Unless you’re REALLY into mint and chocolate, I would avoid this at all costs. Even if you’re into mint and chocolate, I find that combination can only be pulled off by expensive chocolate brands.

Score: -10. Yes, that is a negative sign.

6. Birthday Cake

The smell is really nice, its very artificial, but its almost exactly that of artificial low quality birthday cakes. Those cakes might taste bad, but they smell really good.

Me: its WAY too sugary, and while there is nothing specific I can point to, it left a really weird after taste in my mouth and my stomach felt really upset after, for like two hours. I don’t recommend this one. It has potential, but I would not recommend.

Other Taster: It’s not bad, it just tastes like a weird birthday cake, not too sugary.

The initial taste was actually okay, but after a while it starts to go downhill really quick.

Score: -2.5. Yes, that is a negative sign.

5. Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie

The quality control was interesting on this one, a lot of cookies had significantly varying portions of cream and most of them were not aligned properly. Just thought this was weird.

Me: “Eh” is probably the best way to describe this. The combination just didn’t work well and the overall taste left a lot to be desired. The quality of the ingredients was not good and I feel with a combination like this, you need high quality Peanut Butter and not whatever was in there.

It is definitely worth trying once, but I think for many people, it will be a one time thing.

Other Taster: This cookie is likely not bad for peanut butter lovers. I just don’t like peanut butter. The peanut butter is strong compared to the chocolate flavor.

I believe the original intent was for both flavors to synergize. However, it turned into a battle and the peanut butter won decisively. Still, it’s an okay cookie.

Score: 6

4. Dark Chocolate

This one has almost double the amount of cream between the cookies than the Original and Golden Oreo flavors. We also noticed some tiny sugar crystals on the cream.

Me: I wasn’t a big fan of this one. The chocolate tasted a bit weird, and it didn’t resemble a dark chocolate flavor. I find with some flavors the quality of ingredients really matters.

This “dark chocolate” flavor didn’t taste like dark chocolate and I think that is the biggest problem here. It tastes like they looked for the cheapest dark chocolate they could find and put it here. Score: 5.

Other Taster: This is perfection for chocolate lovers. Yes, I meant chocolate lovers and not just dark chocolate enthusiasts. The cream filling didn’t taste like dark chocolate and was a nice and rich chocolaty cream. Score: 8.

Score: 6.5

3. Cinnamon Bun

Me: What a smell! Have you ever walked into a Cinnabon? Well this smells exactly like that. I really liked the smell. I was literally smelling it for a good 10 seconds because of how good it was. This one also had almost double the amount of cream as the Original and Gold flavors.

The taste is just as incredible as the smell. While not as good as an actual Cinnabon, I found the cinnamon was the exact right amount. Simply a masterpiece. Score: 9.5

Other Taster: I found this flavor to be too sugary. In fact, this was the first one I thought had a bit more sugar. Also, it would have been much better if they had resembled the cheesy cream that we usually put on cinnamon buns.

Either having that flavor or making the actual cream a bit creamier would have helped it a lot. That being said, it’s a good cookie and they nailed the cinnamon flavor. Score: 6

Score: 7.75

2. Gold

Smells incredible and tastes incredible. It has a distinct flavor that I’ve had before. It tastes like the baby food, Cerelac, and I mean that in a REALLY good way. It tastes really good.

I find it has the same concept as the original, where the flavor is not complex but tastes incredible, but its geared towards people that don’t like the chocolate cookies of the Original flavor.

Absolute master piece. This is one of the best Oreo flavors you can buy.

Score: 9.25

1. Original

Sometimes, the Original flavor is all you really need and Oreo’s Original is a pretty good example of this. Its a great cookie, with the right amount of cream and chocolate. You can’t go wrong with this classic.

There is not one single wrong thing with this cookie. It is the best Oreo flavor out there.

Score: 9.5

Final Thoughts

Oreo has a solid Original flavor and very accurate flavors in general. Unfortunately, I found that the crazier flavors were absolutely awful (mint and birthday cake). I found the Mint flavor to be despicable and the Birthday Party flavor to be a nightmare.

I also thought the more interesting flavors (like peanut butter and the dark chocolate) were very mediocre.

A big part of this comes from the fact that the quality of the ingredients used in the cream felt cheap. The cinnamon bun was an absolute delight and I was surprised at how good it was.

I personally enjoyed the yellow cookies a lot more than the chocolate ones but both were great. I think the flavor of the cream was much more important.

Overall, if you’re in the grocery store and you want to buy Oreos, I recommend sticking to the top three flavors we ranked. If you’re looking for a chance then try the other ones, but I would stay clear of the mint and birthday cake flavors.
