Best Ruffles flavors Ranked
8. Ruffles Salt and Vinegar
Brace yourselves for the vinegar smell, because it is very strong. It reminds me of Miss Vickies.
While the flavor itself is not very strong, and might be light to people that like salt and vinegar. When you eat the chips, you feel the fumes of vinegar attacking your nose from the inside of your mouth. I didn’t really feel the salt. The vinegar flavor was the only thing I felt.
Score: 6
7. Ruffles All Dressed
It smelled like something got wet, and was left in a closet, and you suddenly remember it after a year.
Me: I actually like this one, definitely not my favourite, but its solid. I find the vinegar is not as strong as the salt and vinegar but my issue is the flavor being too light. Also, the lighter chips have very little flavor.
Second Taster: It doesn’t taste good, it tastes like the vinegar taste was mixed with something else like paprika and didn’t go well I didn’t really like it. It doesn’t taste good.
Score: 6.25
6. Ruffles BBQ
This did not smell good at all. There was a strong and weird fishy smell.
The flavor is nice, but was a bit too salty. Sadly, the BBQ flavor was weak and didn’t feel accurate.
Score: 6.25
5. Ruffles Regular
Smells like salt, but its faint.
Me: too salty for me. The chip tastes good but I don’t think there’s much you can improve on this chip.
Second Taster: Decent regular chips.
Score: 7
4. Ruffles KFC
Smells like a herbs mix. Nice smell overall.
The Ruffles KFC flavor tastes zesty, and has a hint of lime flavor. It tastes pretty good but while I haven’t had KFC in a while, it reminds me of Lays chicken flavor, which is not sold here in Canada, but is available internationally. I won’t say its not good, but I’ll say its not KFC.
Score: 7.5
3. Ruffles BBQ Flamin Hot
Faint BBQ smell.
The Ruffles BBQ flavor was almost non existant for me. However, the spicy flavor is REALLY good.
Second Taster: the BBQ flavor is subtle, if you take time to eat each chip you will feel it, but if you eat the chips in quick succession you will only feel the spiciness.
Score: 8
2. Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion
Don’t let the bland looking chips fool you. The Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion flavor was on point. It was not weak but also not overpowering. Very impressed with this flavor.
Score: 8.25
1. Ruffles Jalapeno
This bag had a weird spicy smell when you opened it.
Me: this was way too crunchy for me. It feels like I’m eating rocks. I really like the flavor though. The cheddar and jalapeno mix very well. I find that lighter colored chips lack strong flavor, but the darker chips taste very good.
Second Taster: I like the double crunch, it reminds me of a childhood food, this is just perfect for me. I like the crunch and the jalapeno cheddar taste. It is subtle and not too spicy.
This makes the Ruffles Jalapeno one of the best Ruffles flavors in our opinion.
Score: 9

About Ruffles
I urge you you to check out their About Us page. They have almost nothing. This is mostly because the Ruffles brand was acquired in 1958 by Frito-Lay, the chip giant that owns half of everything savory you eat. Which is owned by PepsiCo, which owns half of everything you drink.
They are also the official chips of the NBA – which I didn’t know.
Final Verdict
We have tried a couple of different chips brands so far and once consistent theme has been the lack of a strong flavor. Unfortunately, Ruffles was no exception (which makes sense because they are owned by Lays which makes most chips out there).
None of these flavors were bad and overall it was an enjoyable experience. I think the KFC was the most disappointing, not because it was the worst tasting, but because I had high expectation for it.
