Does Jarritos Have Caffeine? The Most Concrete Answer (2024)
Jarritos has become really popular in North America over the last few years with its multitude of flavors, colors, and incredible taste. Since a lot of sodas have a small amount of caffeine in them, some speculated that Jarritos might have caffeine in some of its flavors as well.
However, finding the answer was not straight forward as there was no official answer online and a lot of existing posts had incorrect information. This ultimately led us to contacting Jarritos on Instagram, and literally asking them, “does Jarritos have caffeine?”
What is Jarritos
Jarritos is a Mexican soda brand founded in 1950 by chemist Don Francisco. Francisco originally started with a coffee flavor to establish the brand and quickly moved on to Tamarind (and other flavors) which is one of its best selling flavors today. Originally, their bottles were not labeled and people just knew the flavor by the color.
Jarritos entered the American market in 1988 and became a top selling Mexican brand in the Hispanic market. The name “Jarritos” means “little jugs” in Spanish. Jarritos is owned by Novamex, a large beverage company in Mexico and is distributed in some parts of Mexico by Pepsi.
The company has distinguished itself with its distinct and colorful flavors as well as using only natural sugars, and not high fructose corn syrup, which is used in traditional sodas.
Now that we’ve talked a little about Jarritos, let’s find out, does Jarritos have caffeine?
Does Jarritos Have Caffeine?
Finding a concrete answer to this question was very difficult because there is no official answer online. I had to go bottle by bottle to read the ingredients list to see if it had caffeine. Once I did find a bottle having caffeine there was no way to tell how much caffeine there was. I found a store online mentioning that the Jarritos Mexican Cola sometimes may have caffeine in it and when it does, it is usually 32 milligrams for each 370 mL bottle. I found that information on the website of a store called HEB.
In order to get a more concrete answer, I reached out to Jarritos on Instagram and they confirmed that the only flavor having caffeine is the Mexican Cola flavor. I also asked them to confirm the quantity but haven’t heard back yet and will update if they get back.
There are a number of incorrect articles out there saying that all Jarritos flavors have caffeine in them, which is completely incorrect. Others claim that none of the flavors have caffeine which is also incorrect. Either some of them are outdated or they did not bother to do any research.
Not having caffeine doesn’t give you a green light to drink a lot of Jarritos. Keep in mind that each soda still contains between 35-44 grams of sugar per bottle (370 mL/12.5 fl oz). So over indulging will definitely lead to a sugar crash.
